Last Tuesday, I was attending a conference call of one of my business partners.

He was promoting with enthousiasm the practice of daily exercises to continuously maintain and improve our positive mental attitude.

He compared this practice with the one of taking care of the health of our physical body, by breathing, eating, drinking, sleeping, making exercises, taking a shower, washing our hands, brushing our teeth, etc.

Charming lady with roses

If we did all that for our body, why couldn’t we and shouldn’t we do the same for our mind?

Of course, I immediately thought of our daily sit, readings, service cards, guy/gall in the glass, etc. and I felt reassured that I had excellent tools to do my brain washing every day.

At the end of the conference, my partner asked the participants to give a short feedback on what they had learned.

But answers like “Very interesting, thank you!” or “You are right, I should do better for my mind” made me realize that some of them didn’t really get the message!

My desire to friendly quick these people in the pants made me think of the following little odorous metaphore:

Imagine that you suppressed just one of the habits described above to take care of your physical body, let’s say the shower (not even a vital one like eating or breathing)…

smell_badNo shower for one or two days should not have unbearable consequences, but what about a week? Or two weeks? The smell… Yuck! Or one month? The bugs…Aaah!!

That’s for the physical body, the “World Without”.

Now think about the amount of dirt and garbage the mind, ie. the “World Within” is forcibly ingurgitating every day:

– The newspapers, the radio news or the worst of all, TV news – literally like a big trash can emptied in the middle of the living room every day, except that it is not the carpet but the brain which is flooded by the trash;

– the negative friends, colleagues, relatives who regularly criticize or complain about everything – politics, economy, the boss, the weather, their spouse, their mother-in-law, their neighbors, their pet, their health, their…you name it… – Pleeeeeaaaase, leave me alone!

– the negative inner thoughts and feelings, emerging from a series of “auto-responders” built over time in the subconscious mind (old blueprint) as a result of heredity, education, social codes, or self-constructed limiting beliefs…

– And so on, and so on…

Knowing that most people are not even spending one minute to wash their brain from all the dirt accumulated every day…could you imagine how stinking the streets, the houses, the shops or the offices would be if their brains emanated a smell reflecting their degree of negativity?

Ok, I warned you that my metaphore would be odorous, but I wanted to make sure you would never consider as an option to quit the sit, the readings, the guy/gall in the glass and all other exercises…unless you wouldn’t care your brain smelling like a rotten egg rather than a rose 🙂
